We wanted to choose a universal charity with a local and (most-importantly) unbiased touch. The Red Cross help people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. They are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. They enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, they help them to recover and move on with their lives.
We particularly like the on-going support of the Red Cross, in preparing people for times of crisis rather than merely in response to it. With recent unfortunate events such as in Norway/Somalia and the increasing frequency of natural disasters, choosing to support The Red Cross seemed apt.
Please be assured that whatever you give will go a long way, be it £5 that could supply over 1,300L of purified water, or £50 that could pay for the physiotherapy to help a landmine victim walk again.
