Alongside a love of travel and wanting to make the most of the limbo between education and work, we thought a year out is a great opportunity to ‘give back’ to each of the countries we are visiting i.e. in helping combat deforestation in Madagascar, raise awareness of poverty in India by living off of $2 a day etc…and raise money for the Red Cross. Also, the trip gives us a fantastic opportunity to learn a language, something we have both always wanted to do.
We previously went on a 4 month stint of travelling between our second and third years of uni, some experiences of which are noteworthy! Dancing with ladyboys in Thailand, trekking the Annapurna range in Nepal, Harvard Summer School in Japan and homestay with Japanese family, teaching English in China, both of us(!) beaten up and chased by 10 chinese barmen in Beijing!, cock fighting in Philippines, Swine flu in Hawaii :(
We raised the money for our upcoming trip doing 2 six-month placements, odd part-time work, boot sales and a summer internship, which we hope to get jobs out of and return home to!
